Swapping a tank for a tankless unit is more involved than a like-for-like replacement. We start by confirming the unit size against your home’s peak hot water draw, then check whether the existing gas line can feed it or needs to be upsized, since tankless units pull more gas than most tanks. Venting comes next: most tankless models need dedicated venting run to the outside, which is a different path than your old tank ever used. We install the unit, connect the gas line and venting, set up the condensate drain if the model is condensing, disconnect and haul away the old tank, and commission the system so it fires correctly at both low and high demand.

A straightforward swap where the gas line and venting are already close to code usually takes half a day to a full day.
