What to Do Before the Technician Arrives

- Check the thermostat. Right mode, set above room temperature for heat, and check the batteries. It is not always the furnace.
- Check the furnace switch. It looks like a light switch on or near the unit and it gets flipped by accident more often than you would think.
- Check the breaker panel for a tripped breaker. Reset it once. If it trips again, stop and call.
- Look at the filter. A completely blocked filter can shut a furnace down on a safety limit.
- In a no-heat call, protect the plumbing. Open cupboard doors under sinks on exterior walls and let a tap run slightly.
